How does the plasma pen work?
Unlike any device on the market, the Plasma Pen converts electrical energy into electrostatic energy to create artificial nitrogen plasma. Plasma is an ionized gas consisting of positive ions and free electrons in proportions which enables it to conduct electricity. These Plasma Pen device discharges precise flashes of plasma in millisecond bursts, triggering the body’s natural healing and anti-aging processes in the epidermal and dermal layers. Your body then starts to produce new collagen and elastin to improve skin texture and tone. This treatment is also known as Fibroblasting. Fibroblasts are the cells that produce collagen.
Is the Plasma Pen Treatment Painful?
The treatment may be mildly to moderately uncomfortable depending on your pain tolerance and what area you are getting treated. Eyelid procedures (where the skin is at its thinnest) can be more painful for some. Your technician will apply numbing cream before and during treatment which is helpful in reducing the discomfort.
Treatments are generally done is less than one hour, and require only local numbing. While the treatment device itself never touches the skin, the plasma flash creates a tiny dot (carbon crusts) upon contact. These superficial dots, which form in a symmetrical grid over the treatment area, are part of the normal healing process and will fall off 5-7 days post-treatment. Clients can return to their normal activities right away with minimal discomfort.
Most clients achieve their desired results after just one treatment. However, depending on the area treated, the skin’s laxity, and the individual response to treatment, an additional treatment may be required after 6-8 weeks for maximize results.
Post Plasma Pen Treatment
Results are virtually immediate and last up to three years. For 5-14 days following your treatment, you will experience skin sensitivity, mild to moderate redness, swelling, skin crusting and flaking. The swelling usually begins the day after treatment and typically lasts for 5 days. The area treated must NOT be covered with any type of make-up, mascara, creams or any other products until completely healed. You will be provided a serum and healing gel at the time of treatment. It is very important to wait until all the scabs fall off on their own.

Healing time and results may be negatively compromised by not following the aftercare protocol: no drinking alcohol, no smoking and no picking/scrubbing. If your health is compromised in any way, this can also extend your healing time and negatively affect your results.
Who is Not a Good Candidate for the Plasma Pen Treatment?
Darker skin tones are not good candidates for this treatment due to the increased risk of hyperpigmentation, inflammation and possible scarring. Contraindications include smokers, pregnant or breastfeeding, autoimmune disorders, blood thinners, cancer, chemo or radiation, gold therapy, cataracts and serious skin disorders.
